The Kleshas (Afflictions): Setting the Context. (3 hours)
What are the kleshas and why are they so important? Translated as afflictions, the kleshas explain why feelings of self-doubt, anxiety, and disillusionment often accompany us. They explain why, while seeking to feel good, we experience some form of mild discontent to all out misery.
In this workshop, we will focus on the binding force of the kleshas, how they affect our lives, and how understanding their hold on us informs our practice. When we see how it is, we know what to do.

The yoga path, as Patanjali lays it out in the Yoga Sutras, is a path that takes the mind from a state of disturbance to a state of harmony, and it begins with the practice of the yamas.
In this workshop, we will look honestly at our addiction to worry, blame, fear, and judgement and how we can use these ethical principles to wean ourselves from disturbance into an ever growing tranquility.

The Niyamas (Observances): Creating a Peaceful Mind (3 hours)
The second half of yoga’s ethical practice is an invitation to cultivate the inner life of a mystic by teaching the mind to enjoy the simpler things of life. Like planting seeds in a garden, we are tending practices that create harmony rather than discord.
The 5 practices of purity, contentment, self-discipline, self-study, and surrender create a harmonious inner landscape upon which the mind can rest and the world can be blessed.
Explore your own inner life through lecture, discussion, and self-reflection.
